First Emperor of China and His Terra Cotta Army Ch'in Shi Huang Ti (259 BC-210 BC), the first ruler to unify all of China, is best known by the large terra cotta army buried to protect his mausoleum in Xian. Only recently discovered, it is far from excavated. As emperor of the Ch'in Dynasty, his rule oversaw massive building projects such as the Great Wall of China and the Grand Chinese Canal.
